Lakorn Starter Pack para sa Waay pa Nayanggaw

Updated: Aug 22, 2021

Lakorn is an acquired taste... especially kun kdrama ang naandan.

Para sa uninitiated, lakorn refers to TV/drama series produced in Thailand. Pinasahi man dya sa iban nga asianobela. Sa tanan nga mga asian drama series, I can honestly confess nga ang lakorn ang pinaka guilty pleasure ko. May kinaiya gid tanda that you just have to experience... and it's not for the faint of heart (and the over sensitive ears!)

Bag-o ikaw magpasimpalad sa wonderfully crazy world ka lakorn; here are some helpful vocabulary: dara - superstar/celebrity fan - boyfriend/girlfriend hia/jae - elder brother/sister (ex. Yaya-Nadech) lung/pa' - uncle/aunt (older brother/sister ka parents) luang por - venerable monk or priest mae - mother (kis-a nagamit sa nanay ka close friend) mia - wife (also refers to a long-time girlfriend) parayaa ang formal term nang'ek/pra'ek - female/male lead; ang bida nang'rai - ang kontrabida naa'/na' - aunt/uncle (younger sister/brother ka parents) nong - younger brother/sister bisan indi kamo paryentehanay por - father (kis-a nagamit sa tatay ka close friend) p' - elder brother/sister bisan indi kamo paryentehanay (P'Toey) pu/ta' - grandfather (tatay kang tatay/nanay) **waay ko dya ginhungod, promise! pua - husband (informal/colloquial); samee ang formal term Sadhu/Sadthu - "Amen" (nagamit after chanting or blessing ka monk) "Su su" - an expression for encouragement pareho sa "Good luck!" or "Fighting!" sa kdrama wai - a gesture nga daw gapangadi and performed with a slight bow; standard for greeting, apologizing, pasalamat kag show of respect. Usually kun sin-o ang mas bata ukon "lower status" ang mauna mag wai. yaa/yai - grandmother (nanay kang tatay/nanay)

Dya ang mga recommended titles that you can try kun gusto mo mapalapad pa gid ang imo asian drama viewing experience (good luck sa eyebags, lakorn episodes could range from 40mins-1hr&50mins) Pascensya liwat sa mga BL fans...ang listahan pang hetero-normative lang anay:

  • Bhuppae Sunnivas (Love Destiny)

  • Bunlang Dok Mai (Throne of Flowers)

  • Jao Sao Jum Yorm (The Unwilling Bride)

  • Likit Ruk (Crown Princess)

  • Tai Ngao Jan (Under the Moon's Shadow)

Kalabanan ka dya gi mga light (and the Thai version of fluff) romcoms with nice solid plots but if you want something very familiar hay daw may separation anxiety pa ikaw sa kdrama, I recommend ang Thai version kang Full House (lintoks nga ice cream sa bridge!!). At least something familiar, plot wise, but flavored in Pad Thai.
