In case you missed it; Couple or Trouble (2006) is a South Korean television series loosely based on the 1987 Hollywood film Overboard. Kun indi ako magsala, ginpagwa dya anay sa GMA 7 with Tagalog dub. Urihi ko dlang gani naman-an nga ang drama is a remake ka movie nanday real-life couple Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel. Box office disappointment man ang Overboard pay ang Couple or Trouble was popular in the ratings, and even received recognition at the MBC Drama Awards.

Sa waay pa nakalantaw, ukon nalipat dun ka plot: Anna Jo (Han Ye-seul) is a rude, spoiled, arrogant and impossible-to-please American-bred heiress. I love the opening scene where she terrorized a little girl with the brutal truth about The Little Mermaid. Anna returns to Korea only to continue being a controlling wife to her already cowardly husband, Billy Park (Kim Sung-min). When her yacht gets stuck for repairs, she hires local handyman Jang Chul-soo (Oh Ji-ho) to fix her shower, but when they have a heated spat over her dissatisfaction with his work and refusal to pay, she pushes him overboard and dunks his tools into the ocean right along with him. Later, after a quarrel with Billy that threatens to end their marriage, she herself gets drunkenly pitched overboard and falls victim to a bad case of amnesia.

At first glance, basic romcom ang drama, then I found out nga ang movie Overboard is a modern take of the screwball comedy of the 1930’s Hollywood. No wonder nga lingaw-lingaw ko, mahuyugon gid man takon sa dinumaan. What sets the screwball comedy apart from the generic romantic comedy is "its emphasis on a funny spoofing of love, while the more traditional romantic ultimately accents love." Screwball comedies often depict social classes in conflict, disguise and masquerade, and plot lines involving courtship and marriage. It is characterized by a female that dominates the relationship with the male central character, whose masculinity is challenged. Te amo gid dya si Anna!
Endearing para ka nakon ang main leads (on point ang anda chemistry kag Oh Ji Oh is the OG oppa!) and the zany side characters...ang village fool, nephews, neighbors & friends. Bisan si “flower vase” nami man ugtasan. But I especially enjoy how Billy is terrified of Anna. (Kim Sung-min was a talented actor despite being troubled in his personal life... subo lang nga nagtaliwan dun tana kang 2016.) Raku mga laugh-out-loud moments ang drama bisan problematic ang premise. Taking advantage of somebody with amnesia is definitely a no no if not downright criminal. But then again, screwball comedy gani ang origins, so it should not be taken seriously. Nami dya lantawon kun uyon mo something light with a chance of hibi-hibi and a craving for jajangmyeon.
