Cool na Cool Dramaland Schools

For somebody who spent most of her life in school, bukon ako superfan kang school drama or even campus romance dramas (unless sa anime). I mean, come on, amo dun dya pangabuhi-an ko, pati sa pantasya eskwelahan man angud?

Ying De University (Meteor Garden, 2001)

Pay tulad nga pandemic times kag sa virtual classrooms lang pwede makaklase, makahiridlaw man magpa eskwelahan... masadya bala magtambay sa school, imaw sa mga abyan, especially kun waay klase. Mangape-ngape lang kag manginaon. School is cool, kun indi stressful.

And on the subject of cool schools... imagine how great it is if the schools in dramaland, like the Eitoku Academy of Hana Yori Dango for example, exist in this reality. Indi man sanda Hogwarts level of fantasy but they’re fantastic enough nga handumon mo man nga may hiring daad sanda sa faculty, ukon maabay man sa itinerary kang inyo “lakbay-aral/bench marking” trip.

Sa pirang nahut nga Asian dramas set in schools nga nalantawan ko, ang mga dorama campuses gid ang makagaranyat para ka nakon. Kalabanan abi mga live-action adaptations sanda ka anime/manga (and I don’t mean the High School of the Dead or Assassination Classroom kind) amo ra nga may bias ako. Baw kun gapangita sanda English instructor ukon Literature teacher, ma-apply gid takon pay...

Saint Lucia Academy for Girls

Super exclusive school for the elite of the elite. According sa dorama, ang land area ka school is one third the size of Tokyo and the only way to get around is with the use of helicopter. Ang academy may movie theater, amusement park, a hot spring among other amenities. Ang school is training the young mistresses to be "proper ladies" hay sanda nga daan ang mga heredera kang anda family businesses.

Ang kada student sa school must have a super "ikemen" (damn good looking) butler kag pati ang school director may personal butler man. Ang pinaka-uyon ko sa school nga dya is its belief in students' independence. Hay ginarespeto nanda kuno ang ikasarang ka student governance, hands-off ang mga teachers kag administration sa pagpadalagan ka school. Sayuron, hayahay ang buhay ka teachers nanda gi . Ang school director nanda gani basa lang ka manga ang opisyo... it's an otaku fantasy really. Isa lang ang ginadumili-an sa school, bawal ang butler-mistress romantic relationship. Pffft... bukon dya problema sa mga laon-to-the-bones.

Another ridiculously elite high school. Waay man sanda butler requirement but the "hosts" could be butlers for a day, or pirates, or any character of your fancy. Obviously ang pinaka attraction ka school nga dya is the Host Club. Diin ikaw makakita ka amo dya man? Host clubs are actually a common feature in the night-time entertainment industry and for a school to permit such a club says a lot about its administration. Waay ako may madumduman nga outstanding classroom scenes ukon endearing teacher character sa dorama, therefore I conclude, pareho sa Saint Lucia Academy, decoration lang ang teachers sa school nga dya. Kun naga-klase gid man sanda, ma balance out lang ka school club activities. Manami lang nga may freedom ang students nanda to pursue endeavors as absurd as this.

Momogaoka College of Music

Huod, tone deaf ako. Amo ra gani nga gusto ko maka bisita sa mga music schools to appreciate "great music". Libagon man ako magkanta pay kamaan man ako mamati kun ano manami sa talinga. Personal taste lang garing, and my taste is borderline trashy. Nahisa gid ako sa mga musically gifted, kag ang school nga dya caters to the unconventional music students. Unconventional man abi ang anda teachers. Actually ang nasadyahan ko giya is not only the music but the hodgepodge of characters, kag syempre ang anime humor. Sa dorama nga dya ko na appreciate gid ang classical music... matyagan ko gin educate nanda ako sa mga composers kag ang history kang anda famous pieces. They made learning about dead people fun. How cool is that?!

Dao Ming Si & Shan Cai

Ah the iconic F4 and the OG school that started it all. Sa tanan nga drama adaptation kang Hana Yori Dango or Boys Over Flowers, ang Meteor Garden lang ang setting sa university, ang kalabanan mga high schools. Indi ko man madumduman kun ano mga majors ka F4 kag ni Shan Cai pay indi ko malipatan ang anda mga tambayan... Ang roof deck nga bisan sin-o lang pwede ka saka kag magsiyagit nga waay kulba nga masita; ang lockers; ang driveway nga pwede lang maka drag race; "picnic" grounds; fountain; cafeteria nga daw hotel resto... Indi katingalahan nga bukon studies ang focus ka mga students nanda. Raku incidents of bullying garing dya nga school kag hadlok pa mga teachers sa students. Tulad ka dya indi run ma tolerate ang amo dya nga depiction ka bullying and the culture of violenc. But then again, panumdumon ta nga this drama is a product of its time, with roots from shoujo manga/anime pa.

and finally, our last stop... from one of my all-time favorite doramas. I've watched all 3 seasons (with 3 different schools & Class 3D), pati ang reunion movie special kag ang anime. There are times I'm tempted to pull a Yankumi on my students...

Shirokin High School

An all-boys private high school located in the fictional city of Kamiyama. The school's motto is: “Give the ungifted people love and understanding". Maintindihan ko insa amo dya ang motto kang school. Naga cater sanda sa mga delinguents kag ang best nga homeroom teacher para sa mga pasaway nga estudyante is the 4th generation heir to the Ooedo Group, a notorious yakuza clan.

Bukon te harandumon ang amo ka dya nga estudyante, but kun ma win-over mo man sanda, pareho kay Yankumi, you would be rewarded with an amazing experience. Ma affirm ang imo ginsumpaan nga profession bisan daw surumpaan ang imo inagyan. Ang nauyunan ko sa school nga dya is the friendship they forged bisan sa mugot lang nga tyempo ang anda pag-imaw. There's beauty in fleeting things.

Kalabanan sa mga schools nga dya gi are from my own nostalgia... for sure, raku dun nga mga campus/school dramas nga mas bonggaitan pa ka dya gi, waay ko lang nalantawan... naglain dun siguro ang akon preference (in other words, nagmal-am dun ako). But it's always nice to look back to these "old school dramas" and be reminded of why we love schools inspite of...
